‘WINNING’ TREATS

by Sarah (Sezza) Hetu

99 words

Phlegm the goblin and Gullet the gargoyle attended the human’s Halloween fair.

“Let’s win candy!” Gullet said. He tried the ring toss.

He missed.

“Pie-eating?” Phlegm asked. “I love bat meat pies.” He chomped. “Apples?! Gross!”

“Corn maze?” Gullet suggested.

They tiptoed around the maze….

They collided with someone. She ran, dropping her candy.

“Score!” Phlegm said.

They haunted the maze, and ‘won’ tons of candy.

But…

“Tastes like sadness and bad decisions,” Phlegm said.

“We can fix this,” Gullet said.

They baked treats–meat pies!–and chilled them outside.

“What kind of meat did we use, Phlegm?”

“Bat meat!”

WHAT AM I?

53 words

I muffle your footsteps,

and roll with the breeze.

I sneak around fences,

and lurk among trees.

I soften your focus,

obscuring your sight.

I don’t harm a soul, yet

I amplify fright.

I love when it’s humid–

I hang at the bog.

Forget about beach days….

You guessed it–I’m _ _ _.
